A creative, new “wearable art” fashion label under the charming name From My Mother’s Garden. The label is the inspiration of Penny Callaghan, owner of Colmers Hill Fashion Boutique in West Dorset.
What sets the range apart is the beautiful prints that Penny has created using images taken by her and her partner, Alistair Homer. The first designs, entitled Harmony, Radiance, Connection and Reflection capture the vibrant colours and magical beauty of an English garden.
She was inspired by her Mother’s garden and their close mother & daughter bond.
Penny explains, “My idea originally came from my Mother asking us to take a series of photos of her small but very beautiful garden. She derives such joy from it and so we wanted to capture some of its beauty. When I saw the images, I immediately thought that they could look stunning on fabric because of the colours and so started the idea for the collection. I did a BA Hons Creative Arts Degree at University so I have been dreaming of doing a project like this since I started my boutique.”
The beautiful new clothing range will initially include luxury reversible velvet kimonos, lightweight kimonos and a long robe in the four prints alongside other complementary styles and accessories.
From My Mother’s Garden uses environmentally responsible fabrics and techniques wherever possible. The lightweight kimonos are made of Viscose and other items from organic cotton. Sublimation printing is used which minimises wastage and only prints the fabric required. An exciting range of accessories is made from recycled linen using plant based dyes.
“For me, it’s about cherishing an item of clothing and valuing it as a work of art in its own right,” says Penny. “It fits the ethos of my boutique, where we actively promote slow fashion.”
Penny will be selling the new collection online and at selected fashion boutiques around the country.
